Build quality is excellent. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM feels very solid in your hand, even if it is mostly made out of plastic, and it features enhanced resistance to shock and vibration and weather-proofing too. The focusing ring is generously wide, and has a ridged, rubberised grip band.

IS will provide more advantage as I wont use tripod a lot during vacations. 4.0 is just one-stop behind 2.8, which 'may' be easily compensated with IS.

Between the 24-70 F2.8 and the F4 version, the F2.8 II has a better reputation for optical performance. I only use zooms when I know that I need the range of focal lengths. A 24-105 makes for a good travel lens, but so does the 16-35 F4 IS. It all depends on where you plan to travel and the sorts of photo opportunities you expect.
